JULIA FLAMINGO

Julia Flamingo, a native of São Paulo, is a prominent art journalist, researcher, and writer specializing in contemporary art. Julia's flourishing freelance career as a highly sought-after journalist and critic has garnered attention from various outlets in both Brazil and Portugal, a testament to her distinctive voice in the realm of contemporary art. Notably, her tenure with the world - renowned Brazilian magazine Veja São Paulo at such a young age remains one of the impressive highlights of her career to date.

Driven by a fervent commitment to making contemporary art more accessible, Julia established the digital platform Bigorna in 2018—a highly successful educational initiative centered around the use of plain language, dynamic videos and texts, classes and guided tours as tools to bring audiences closer to the contemporary art world. Concurrently, she generates a substantial volume of content for Artpool.xyz, the global network for art curators, where she holds a position as the communication manager and primary writer.

Julia has made significant contributions to noteworthy projects, including the Creative Europe-funded initiative 4Cs, the SP-Arte fair, and the São Paulo Biennial. Her involvement underscores her commitment to shaping and showcasing compelling artistic endeavors on both a national and international scale.

Julia's academic background includes a degree in Journalism from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie and another in History from Pontifícia Universidade Católica, both situated in São Paulo. Further enhancing her qualifications, she holds a master’s degree in Culture Studies from Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon.
