“XI” is an enveloping installation by São Paulo-based collective Assume Vivid Astro Focus spanning floor to ceiling that features densely patterned wallpaper, multicolored seating, and sculptures that shapeshift into performative stage elements. Run by the directors of the Ballet de Marseille, France-based collective (LA)HORDE pushes the boundaries of classical dance to explore how bodies are represented in public space, social networks, objects, and onstage.
Major exhibition showcasing work by artists who foreground the body as a site of political agency and imagination, artistic investigation, decolonization, and alternative forms of community. The exhibition’s title is based on the term, Chicano, that is traditionally defined as an ethnic identity for Mexican Americans who embrace their indigenous ancestry.
Mirror of the Mind explores the entangled, inseparable relationship between the physical and emotional aspects of the body. This exhibition brings together more than 120 artists who use figuration and portraiture to examine the complexities of the human condition: the power of perception, the weight of trauma, the possibilities for healing, the space for introspection.
Solo show by the South Africa-based, Malawi-born artist Billie Zangewa. Accompanying her celebrated hand-stitched fabrics, Zangewa introduces beveled, antiqued mirror artworks in a post-pandemic contemplation of emotions, the human condition and sociopolitical challenges.
Sculptor and performance artist Smita Sen works with sculpture, dance performances and technology to create photos and videos that research body movements. Andrea Chung’s work investigates the colonial as it relates to motherhood, Blackness, the impact of trauma and the imagination.
