195 galleries from 42 countries will gather for the third edition of Art Basel Paris—and the first edition to be staged at the historic Grand Palais. The 2022 and 2023 editions of the fair took place under the name Paris+ par Art Basel, in the Grand Palais Ephémère.

Olga de Amaral at Foundation Cartier pour l’art contemporain

The first major retrospective in Europe of Olga de Amaral, a key figure of the Colombian art scene and of textile art. The exhibition brings together nearly eighty works made between the 1960s and now. Beyond the vibrant goldleaf pieces for which the artist is renowned, the exhibition reveals her earliest explorations and experimentations with textile, as well as her monumental works.

“Soft Skills” by Mohamad Abdouni and “Total” by Martine Syms at Lafayette Anticipations

The Lebanese artist presents works made with photography and AI to bring childhood memories and fictional elements to discuss normative masculinity and re-examine his queer boy desires. The edgy contemporary-art foundation run by the Galeries Lafayette group also presents the solo show of the Los Angeles-born artist  Martine Syms, whose works are an exploration of society’s expectations of Black women and Black artists in particular.

“Chine” at Centre Pompidou

A collective exhibition on the upcoming contemporary Chinese art scene with works by 21 artists. The opening of China to the world, environmental upheavals and the transformation of lifestyles in Chinese society are all topics addressed by this young generation of artists, born in the late 1970s through to the early 1990s, as China experienced a great economic boom.

PUBLIC ARTWORKS

Carten Höller’s latest large-scale sculpture Giant Triple Mushroom, will be on display at Place Vendôme in Paris. Standing nearly three meters tall, the artwork merges enlarged cross-sections of three distinct mushroom species into one hybrid form.

To enhance the flow between the Grand Palais and Petit Palais, the Avenue Winston Churchill will be pedestrianized for the duration of the fair and will host public artworks by John Chamberlain, Yayoi Kusama, and Jean Prouvé. The Hôtel de la Marine majestic inner courtyard is a new location for the Public Program of Art Basel Paris this year, hosting “Aeolian” by the Greek artist Takis.
