Biography

Ana Maria Caballero is a Colombian-American poet and multidisciplinary artist recognized as one of the leading figures in the emerging field of digital and Web3 poetry. Her literary work examines how biological experience, especially pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood, is shaped and constrained by cultural expectation, pushing back against romanticized narratives of maternal sacrifice and asking readers to reconsider inherited ideas about womanhood and virtue. Over the course of her career she has received significant recognition for this work, including Colombia's Jose Manuel Arango National Poetry Prize, the Beverly International Prize, and the MAXXI BVLGARI Prize, alongside a shortlisting for the international Lumen Prize for digital art. Caballero has been a pioneering advocate for treating poetry as a form of collectible digital art, translating text-based work into blockchain-native pieces that experiment with how a poem can be experienced, displayed, and owned rather than simply read on a page. In 2024 she made history as the first living poet to sell a poem at Sotheby's, a milestone that signaled growing institutional recognition for digital poetry within the broader contemporary art and auction world. She is also the co-founder of theVERSEverse, a digital poetry gallery that showcases and sells text-based artworks by poets working across the Web3 space, giving literary artists a dedicated platform and market that did not previously exist within crypto art.
