Biography

Boldtron is the shared artistic name of Xavier and Daniel Cardona, twin brothers born and based in Barcelona who have spent over two decades working across illustration, 3D art direction, CGI, and virtual reality before turning their focus to artificial intelligence. Describing themselves as 'digital conveyors' and 'catalysts,' the duo approaches AI not as a simple prompting tool but as an unpredictable creative collaborator, embracing trial-and-error experimentation that mirrors organic, almost biological processes of discovery. Their name is a playful nod to the retro anime robot Voltron, pushed into a bolder, more intense register. After years as freelance illustrators and art directors working across Europe and Asia, the brothers returned to their native Barcelona and began channeling their classical art training and technical CGI background into strange, organic AI-generated creatures and immersive digital worlds. Their work has been exhibited and screened at events such as Sónar festival, with whom they have collaborated since the early 2000s, as well as through galleries and platforms including Eterno Gallery and Fellowship. Notable projects include 'The Vault of Wonders' and an evolving bestiary of hybrid creatures that merge natural forms with synthetic textures and impossible anatomy. Boldtron has also become known for public talks and workshops on generative AI, sharing their non-traditional, image-to-video-based workflow with other creatives and brands. Their practice sits at the intersection of fine art, VR experimentation, and cutting-edge generative technology, consistently pushing toward new, unclassifiable visual territory.
