Biography

Cole Sternberg is a conceptual artist born in 1979 in Richmond, Virginia, who now lives and works in Los Angeles, California. His multidisciplinary practice spans painting, photography, sculpture, room-scale installation, literature, and film, unified by a sustained meditation on humanity's existential and ecological quandary: the condition of being simultaneously destructive toward the natural world and inescapably bound to it. Sternberg's work often incorporates natural elements and processes directly into its making, such as exposing canvases or materials to weather, saltwater, or specific environmental conditions, allowing nature itself to participate in shaping the final piece.
