Biography

Damjanski (who goes by one name) is an artist who describes his practice as living in a browser — treating apps, algorithms, and the interfaces we use daily as artistic material rather than tools. He came up through early-internet message boards and surf clubs before moving into a formal art practice built on the performative, participatory side of technology. In 2018 he co-founded MoMAR with David Lobser, an unauthorized augmented-reality gallery that overlays digital artworks onto the physical galleries of MoMA in New York without the museum's permission — a project now in its sixth-plus year. His individual works, including a CAPTCHA designed to filter out humans and a deepfake app built around his own face, use humor and DIY prototype aesthetics to probe how algorithms perceive and process people. He debuted on SuperRare in 2020 and has shown at ZKM Karlsruhe, HeK Basel, TRANSFER, and Roehrs & Boetsch, Zürich.
