Biography

Ivona Tau, PhD, is a generative AI artist from Vilnius, Lithuania, who uses neural networks and code as a medium for experimental photography and motion painting. Combining roughly fifteen years of professional photography experience with advanced research in artificial intelligence, she transforms personal moments captured on analog and digital film into universally relatable, dreamlike scenes using generative adversarial networks. Her stated aim is to evoke genuine emotion through artificially intelligent tools, turning private memory into shared visual experience. Tau holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology and has published scientific papers on computer vision and artificial neural networks, giving her practice a rare grounding in both technical rigor and artistic sensitivity. Her achievements include winning the top award at the Digital Ars 2020 contest for AI-created art, receiving the Computer Animation category award at Computer Space International Computer Art Forum 2021, and being named one of the Top 10 Women in AI 2022 by the Women in Tech Foundation. Her work has been exhibited at major venues and fairs including Art Basel Miami Beach, SCOPE, CAFA, Art Week Shenzhen, Bitforms New York, Venus Over Manhattan, and Bright Moments Berlin, and has crossed the auction block at Christie's and Sotheby's in New York. Pieces from her practice have entered the permanent collections of the ZKM Museum of Contemporary Art in Germany and the Francisco Carolinum Linz in Austria.
