Biography

Jacopo Di Cera was born in Milan in 1981. After years working in communications, he moved into the art world in Rome. He studied photography with international photographers and won a National Geographic competition in 2010. His early projects were shown at the Museo di Roma in Trastevere and Palazzo Valentini in Rome, including a project on Jerusalem. In 2016, Fino alla Fine del Mare, on migration and the abandoned boats of Lampedusa, was shown at Paris Photo, PAN Napoli and Arles, among other venues. In 2017 he exhibited during the Venice Biennale aboard the boat Pier Paolo Pasolini used for Edipo Re, at the Arsenale. His other photographic work includes Il rumore dell’Assenza, made after the Amatrice earthquake, and Sospesi, a decade-long series of zenithal photographs. His practice includes Photomaterism, which builds salt, rust and wood into photographic images. Since 2020 he has also worked in digital art and NFTs. His first digital works were shown at Maison Bosi in Rome in 2023. Infinity, a work using drone footage on 14 looping screens, was shown at Ninfa Labs in Milan in March 2023. In 2025 he presented Retreat at Art Dubai, a 40-screen installation of upcycled monitors about the Brenva Glacier on Mont Blanc. His work deals with climate change, migration, memory and loss. He is exhibited by DANAE at the Digital Sector of Paris Photo 2026.
