Biography

James Bloom, working formerly under the name crashblossom, is a London-based artist who uses technological innovation to push the components of art into formats that generate new perceptual problems. Describing himself playfully as a 'crypto arsonist,' Bloom combines artificial intelligence, glitch processes, and dynamic on-chain code to produce ruptured, fragmented digital images that merge figurative subject matter with abstraction. His work explores humanity's jagged, often uneasy relationship to the metaverse and digital networks, using complex code-based and material production techniques to make art that mimics and reflects on the very systems in which it exists. Bloom has been recognized as one of the notable voices shaping contemporary glitch art, with his practice highlighted in publications such as Fakewhale LOG for merging digital abstraction with pioneering blockchain innovations. His perpetually changing, code-driven artworks have been featured by platforms and organizations including CVPR Art, United Media Artists, and VERSE.works, and he has exhibited internationally, including a showing of his work 'Half Cheetah' at Palazzo Mora and Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello during the Venice exhibition season. Bloom has also been profiled as an 'Artist of the Week' by NFT Morning, discussing his creative journey and evolving relationship with blockchain-based art. Across his output, whether released under his own name or as crashblossom, Bloom's work consistently interrogates how digital systems distort, reconstruct, and destabilize the images and networks that shape contemporary visual culture.
