Biography

Kevin Abosch (born 1969, Los Angeles, of Irish heritage) is an acclaimed conceptual artist whose diverse body of work spans photography, sculpture, installation, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and film. Abosch began his career as a portrait photographer, gaining international recognition for his stark, minimalist portraits of celebrities and business leaders, as well as, famously, a single potato, "Potato #345," which became emblematic of his interest in questioning how value and identity are assigned to images and objects. Across his practice, Abosch poses ontological questions and responds to sociological dilemmas, using both traditional media and generative technologies such as machine learning to investigate the relationship between identity, meaning, and worth in a rapidly changing world. He is widely regarded as a pioneer of cryptoart, among the earliest artists to explore blockchain as both a distribution mechanism and a conceptual medium for interrogating digital ownership and scarcity. His work has been exhibited at major institutions worldwide, including the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the National Museum of China in Beijing, the National Gallery of Ireland, the Jeu de Paume in Paris, and the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
