Biography

Kjetil Golid is a Norwegian generative artist and system developer based in Trondheim whose practice is driven by a deep interest in algorithms and data structures. He began coding and making art around the same time, more than a decade ago, after studying graphic design in Singapore, and his projects typically start from an open-ended curiosity: "What would it look like if I did this?" That experimental spirit, paired with rigorous algorithmic translation, produces intricately balanced compositions built from a signature visual grammar of cuboid shapes, black lines, cellular automata, and layered noise patterns. Golid champions programming as a legitimate platform for creative expression and keeps much of his code open source, allowing others to explore, modify, and learn from his systems. He also builds interactive generative tools that let viewers experiment with his algorithms directly, without needing any coding background themselves, extending access to generative art beyond technical audiences. His work sits at an equilibrium between chaos and intentionality, using constrained rule sets to generate outcomes that feel both systematic and organic. Golid's art has been exhibited and collected by prominent venues including Kate Vass Galerie, the Museum of Contemporary Digital Art, and the Venice Biennale. He continues to develop new generative systems exploring cellular automata, noise, and geometric abstraction, remaining one of the most respected voices in the contemporary generative art community.
