Artist Directory

London-based simulation artist, filmmaker, and musician (b. 1982, Frankfurt) building a continuous "Sinofuturist" cinematic universe using video game engines and CGI.
Lawrence Lek is a London-based artist, filmmaker, and musician who builds and films entire worlds inside real-time video game engines, assembling them from fragments of real places into what he calls "three-dimensional collages of found objects and situations." For over a decade he has sustained a single continuous fiction, the Sinofuturist universe, exploring how AI, automation, and global capitalism reshape identity and agency. He holds a PhD from the Royal College of Art and studied architecture at Cambridge and the Architectural Association. In 2024 he won the Frieze London Artist Award, and he was named to TIME's 100 most influential people in AI. He is represented by Sadie Coles HQ, and his work sits in the collections of the Guggenheim, M+ Hong Kong, and the Singapore Art Museum.
