Linda Dounia

Biography

Linda Dounia (also known as Linda Dounia Rebeiz) is a Senegalese-Lebanese multidisciplinary artist, designer, and writer based in Dakar whose work examines the philosophical and environmental implications of technocapitalism. Her practice centers on post-colonial technology and design, using speculative fiction and science-fiction world-building to envision alternative futures grounded in indigenous knowledge systems and African cultural memory. Dounia merges physical and digital mediums through a transdisciplinary approach that investigates the social construction of power and its ongoing cultural consequences, often using generative and AI-driven processes to construct hybrid landscapes and dreamlike scenes. Before establishing her independent art practice, she held design leadership roles at organizations including IDEO.org, Google, Dalberg, and the African Leadership University, applying design thinking toward projects intended for positive social impact. She is the founder of Cyber Baat DAO, a decentralized autonomous collective of African-descended creators built on the blockchain, reflecting her broader commitment to representing and empowering diverse communities through technology. Dounia's work has been exhibited internationally at venues including Art Basel Miami, the Dakar Biennale, Unit London, and the Museum of Newfangled Art, and her practice and writing have been featured in publications such as Vogue Singapore, Nataal, and The Art Newspaper. In 2023, she was recognized by TIME as one of the 100 Most Influential People in AI. Dounia continues to expand her practice across art, design, and curatorial work, consistently centering African perspectives within conversations about technology's future.
