Montreal-based on-chain artist merging digital photography, generative systems, and blockchain-native smart contract art.
Loucas Braconnier, known professionally as Figure31, is a Canadian digital artist born in the late 1990s and based in Montreal, Quebec. He studied photography, cinema, and media, earning a bachelor's degree before turning toward blockchain-native art. His practice sits at the intersection of digital photography and on-chain generative systems, treating the smart contract itself as a medium rather than simply a distribution or certification layer. Early collaborative works like SALT (2021), made with 0xmons, paired durational photographic loops with contract-driven timing, while PROXY (2023) explored algorithmic portraiture stripped of literal likeness. His ongoing interest in chance, structure, and collector participation crystallized in throwOfDice, a fully on-chain project curated by Grida that reimagines dice through smart contract logic, linking each mint to the one before and after via wallet-based seeding. Rather than delivering a static image, the work unfolds as a continuously evolving on-chain animation, visually inspired by Braille-like tactile patterns and dithered dot fields. Figure31's art has been shown internationally, including at ARCO Madrid and Proof of Concept in Singapore, and he has partnered with platforms like Wild.xyz and Eclipse. Across his output, he treats blockchain not as packaging for an image but as a living universe with its own rules and duration, where authorship, permanence, and the collector's presence become structural elements of the work itself.
