Maryam Hassani

Biography

Maryam Hasani is an Iranian painter, illustrator, and art director who also lectures at Tehran Art University, bridging her studio practice with art education. Her work unfolds in the space between myth, memory, and emotion, spanning painting, digital art, watercolor, and mixed media to create dreamlike worlds populated by fragments of childhood, handmade objects, and traces of forgotten stories. Series such as Graphite Reverie, Eyes Story, and Between Childhood and Distance reflect her recurring interest in interiority and remembrance, often rendered through delicate linework, muted palettes, and intimate, diaristic compositions. Watercolor plays a significant role in her practice, appearing in works like Mother Nature and her broader watercolor series, where organic forms and soft color washes evoke a sense of quiet transformation and rebirth. At NFC Summit 2026 in Lisbon, Hasani presented physical drawings alongside digital works and personal narrative, offering two parallel registers of the same imagination: one made by hand, one made on screen, both moving through shared symbolic territory. Her recent work, including pieces like War, Played Like a Game, has also engaged with more urgent social and political themes, extending her exploration of memory and vulnerability into contemporary conflict and childhood disruption. Hasani's practice is distinguished by its poetic, intimate sensibility, offering viewers a quieter, more personal encounter with an artist still developing an early chapter of a long career.
