Biography

Maya Man is an artist, programmer and dancer based in New York. Born in 1996, she studied computer science and media studies at Pomona College and earned an MFA in Media Art at UCLA in 2023. Her work looks at identity culture on the internet, including femininity, authenticity and the way people perform themselves online. She treats the screen as a place for intimacy and performance, and she builds websites, generative series, browser tools and installations. Her browser extension Glance Back and her Art Blocks Curated collection FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT are two of her best-known projects. The Whitney Museum of American Art acquired her work A Realistic Day In My Life Living In New York City, a digital piece made of hourly videos, in 2024. She has also shown at bitforms in New York, SOOT in Tokyo, Verse in London and House of Electronic Arts Basel, and her work has appeared at Christie's and Sotheby's. She has spoken about her practice at the New Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and MOCA Los Angeles. Outside her own studio work, she runs HEART, an artist-run project space in SoHo for artists working with the internet, software and pop culture. For collectors, she is an artist whose work sits in a museum collection, on-chain and online at once.
