Biography
Mazaccio and Drowilal is a French duo made up of Elise Mazac, known as Mazaccio, and Robert Drowilal. They work in post-photography, building analogue and digital collages from appropriated advertising, paparazzi and social media images. Their practice rests on the principle of gluing and draws on conceptual art, Pop art and the Pictures Generation. Their subjects are fame, brand image and identity, and digital culture and internet iconography shape how they handle images. Series include Iconology, Paravent Pictures and Paparazzi. In 2024 they were laureates of the Institut pour la photographie grant. Their work has been shown in solo exhibitions at Rencontres d'Arles, Les Abattoirs in Toulouse, the Musee des Beaux-Arts in La Chaux-de-Fonds and the French Institute in New York. Group exhibitions include Galleria Continua, the Nicephore Niepce Museum and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Paris. At Paris Photo 2026 they are presented by Glenda Cinquegrana Art Consulting in the Digital Sector, where Iconology is shown for the first time.
