Biography

MGXS, born Fernando Magalhães in Brazil, is a generative and crypto artist now based in Lisbon, Portugal, where his work has helped establish the city as a serious node in the global digital art world. For over a decade, Magalhães has used code, algorithms, and artificial intelligence to build immersive digital ecosystems that explore the intersection of humanity and machines, treating concepts such as machine cosmogony, artificial memory, and evolving digital species as central artistic material. He gained international acclaim in 2022 with 'Genesis [GNSS],' a generative art collection depicting unique machine-driven species and subspecies that sold out within minutes and became one of the defining releases of that era's generative art movement. He expanded this universe in 2023 with 'Machine Embedded Memories (MEM),' an interactive AI extension allowing collectors and the public to co-create memories for the digital beings first introduced in GNSS, and again in 2025 with 'Lore,' a procedural storytelling and AI platform that invites GNSS holders to collectively write new machine mythologies. Beyond his own practice, Magalhães has used his platform to support causes such as Bibliothèques Sans Frontières (Libraries Without Borders), reflecting an interest in community and access alongside his technical experimentation. His work has been featured by platforms including SuperRare, Binance, and NFT Morning, and discussed extensively for its blend of Japanese-influenced aesthetics, science fiction world-building, and rigorous generative coding. Through MGXS Studio, Magalhães continues to push the boundaries of what generative, AI-driven art can depict and how audiences can participate in the mythologies it creates.
