She is best known for pioneering facial morphing and age-progression technologies, developing a patented method in 1981 for producing an image of a person's face at a different age, work that laid the technical foundation for software later adopted by law enforcement agencies to help locate missing children and adults. Beyond forensic applications, Burson has consistently used morphing as a tool for social and philosophical inquiry.
