AI art, painting, digital art

Biography

Norman Harman is a Scottish artist, born in 1977, recognized as an early pioneer of a hybrid practice he calls POSTPAINTING, which merges traditional oil painting technique with artificial intelligence and digital systems. Trained as a classical painter, Harman spent years developing an analogue painting process before discovering non-fungible tokens in 2018, an encounter that reshaped his practice and led him to combine machine-generated imagery with hands-on digital painting intervention. Many of his works begin as AI-generated images drawn from his own closed visual universe, Android Plaza, before being reworked and painted over using techniques honed through years of traditional oil painting. Harman is a member of the art collective Ltd Ink Corporation and has produced a number of long-running conceptual projects, including Android Plaza, This Technocratic Town, The 10th E State, The Pentland Experiment, MEGA DROP CORP, and LOWEKCHO, each exploring different facets of painting, AI imagery, sound, and digital systems. His work blends figurative, landscape, and surrealist painting traditions with glitch aesthetics and machine-learning outputs, resulting in a distinctive visual language that bridges analog craft and digital automation. His art has been exhibited across the United Kingdom and Europe, and he has been recognized as one of the most influential artists working at the intersection of painting and AI.
