Anonymous conceptual and performance artist (b. 2021 as an on-chain persona) working at the intersection of technology, gender, identity, and the body.
OONA is an anonymous conceptual artist whose practice explores the collision of progressive technology with regressive ideas about gender and the body. Appearing publicly as a masked figure in signature sunglasses, she has been a prominent voice in crypto art since her on-chain "birth" in 2021, using moving image and performance to question how the female form is commodified in digital space. Her best-known body of work, Look, Touch, Own, includes a 2023 performance in which the first touches on her scars and former silicone implants generated unique NFTs, later shown at NADA Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach. More recent works, including Dear David, I'm a Spoilt Girl and but, i never miss you, extend her inquiry into surveillance and self-mythology. She has exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Annka Kultys Gallery, and Digital Art Mile Basel, and was a participant in GLITCH, the annual Web3 residency organized by Primavera De Filippi.
