Biography

Operator is the collaborative name of Ania Catherine and Dejha Ti, an award-winning experiential artist duo based in Barcelona whose practice, dating back to 2016, merges immersive art, human-computer interaction, choreography, and performance. Working across large-scale conceptual installations, they bring a poetic, emotionally attuned approach to technology, often foregrounding the psychological and affective dimensions of digital immersion rather than relying on spectacle alone. Since their 2019 installation 'On View,' Operator has focused much of their work on themes of privacy, surveillance capitalism, and extractive technologies, developing this inquiry further through their ongoing Privacy Collection, a series of crypto-based projects examining how digital systems monitor, commodify, and shape human behavior. Their collection 'Human Unreadable,' released on Art Blocks Curated, explores generative choreography through sophisticated code-based systems, drawing inspiration from earlier pioneers of technology-driven performance such as Experiments in Art and Technology, Analívia Cordeiro, and Merce Cunningham, and translating human movement into algorithmically generated visual outputs. The duo's work has earned significant recognition, including the Lumen Prize, ADC Awards, the S+T+ARTS Prize, and MediaFutures, and has been presented at major institutions and events including Christie's Art+Tech Summit, Ars Electronica, Art Basel, and the MIT Open Documentary Lab.
