An anonymous, pioneering NFT artist known for conceptual works exploring value, scarcity, and ownership, including The Merge and The Fungible.
Pak is an anonymous digital artist, programmer, and one of the most influential figures in NFT art, known for using the pseudonym Pak while keeping their true identity deliberately obscured. Emerging from years of experimental digital and crypto-art projects, Pak's work is often concerned with themes of value, scarcity, absence, and the nature of ownership itself, frequently expressed through minimalist, conceptual pieces rather than traditional imagery. In 2021, Pak created The Fungible, a 48-hour open-edition NFT project that served as the centerpiece of Sotheby's first NFT auction, introducing the auction house's collector base to blockchain-based art through a novel edition-based sales model. Later that year, Pak released The Merge on Nifty Gateway, a piece sold in editions that combined into fewer, larger 'mass' tokens as collectors purchased more units. The Merge became the largest sale ever by a living artist, generating roughly 91.8 million dollars from tens of thousands of collectors and drawing widespread attention to the economics of digital ownership. Beyond individual sales records, Pak has built an extensive and interconnected body of work across multiple platforms and blockchains, often releasing projects that reward collective participation, burning, or destruction of tokens as part of the artistic concept. Described in the artist's own words as pursuing 'the nothing,' Pak's practice continually interrogates ideas of absence and worth within digital culture, cementing a reputation as one of the most consequential and enigmatic artists working in the NFT space.
