Biography

Ry David Bradley, born in 1979 in Melbourne, Australia, is a digital-native painter who lives and works between London and Paris. He studied new media, video, and internet art in the early 2000s before earning his Master of Fine Art from the Victorian College of the Arts at the University of Melbourne in 2013. For over a decade, Bradley's practice has mined new methods for painting in the twenty-first century by incorporating software directly into his working process, treating digital tools not merely as aids but as fundamental instruments of mark-making alongside traditional materials. In 2009, he founded PAINTED, ETC., an influential international website chronicling contemporary painting, which helped position him as an early and thoughtful commentator on how painting was evolving in an increasingly networked, screen-based culture. Bradley's hybrid canvases often layer digital processes, printed imagery, and physical paint, blurring the boundary between the virtual and the material and reflecting his long-standing interest in how images circulate and mutate online. His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions and galleries including the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Sullivan+Strumpf, The Hole, Brigade Gallery, and Carl Kostyál, and he has received support from organizations such as the Australia Council for the Arts.
