Biography

Sam Spratt is a New York-based digital painter who works out of his studio in Manhattan, creating richly detailed digital paintings that draw on traditional painting techniques translated into a digital medium. A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Spratt spent his early career building a reputation as an illustrator, notably creating striking album cover artwork for musicians, before shifting his focus toward long-form, narrative digital painting. Since October 2021, Spratt has been developing Luci, an ongoing mythic series of digital paintings paired with written psalms that unfolds as an episodic, participatory story of pilgrimage and self-discovery. Widely regarded as a refracted self-portrait of the artist, Luci combines painterly craftsmanship with an evolving mythology involving masks, monuments, and symbolic characters that Spratt has released piece by piece to a devoted community of collectors. The project reached a major milestone when a work from the series sold as the top lot in an NFT auction at Christie's, helping establish Spratt as one of the leading figures translating fine-art painting traditions into the digital and blockchain art space. His work has been exhibited and discussed by institutions including the Toledo Museum of Art, and he has been featured in publications such as Taschen's 'On NFTs,' which highlighted his contributions to contemporary on-chain art. Spratt has spoken publicly about his personal journey through difficult periods in his life and how they shaped the themes of struggle, transformation, and pilgrimage that run throughout Luci. Known for his meticulous, almost obsessive approach to detail and worldbuilding, Spratt continues to expand the Luci universe through new paintings, community events, and interactive projects like The Monument Game, cultivating one of the most dedicated fan communities in digital art.
