Artist Directory

A Spanish conceptual and technology artist from Burgos, founder of the Harddiskmuseum, the first art museum encoded in DNA.
Solimán López, born in Burgos, Spain, in 1981, is a Spanish conceptual and technology artist and art historian whose practice sits at the intersection of art, science, sociology, and biotechnology. He is the founder of the Harddiskmuseum, a pioneering digital art collection housed on a single hard drive, and more recently the driving force behind an effort to encode that same museum into synthetic DNA, making it the first museum in history to be preserved through genetic storage. Across more than a decade and a half of work, López has developed a body of research connecting contemporary art with emerging fields such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and blockchain, using each as both subject matter and material for his conceptual projects. His works, including pieces such as 'High Meshes,' 'Celeste,' and 'The Sacred Drop,' often explore themes of memory, preservation, and the long-term fate of digital information in a rapidly changing technological landscape. López splits his time between France and Spain, and serves as a faculty member at Paris College of Art as well as Innovation Director at ESAT, extending his research-driven practice into art education. He has received multiple awards for his conceptual and technology-based work and has presented his projects internationally at museums, galleries, and digital art platforms, including institutions focused specifically on new media and bioart. Through the Harddiskmuseum and his broader body of work, López continues to investigate what it means to create, store, and preserve art and cultural memory as digital and biological technologies increasingly converge.
