Artist translating scent molecules into visual and digital sculptural form through GC-MS chemical analysis.
Siddhartha Kunti works under the name Studio Siddhartha Kunti (SSK) to create olfactory art that translates one of the least explored senses in visual culture, smell, into digital and sculptural form. Using GC-MS (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry) chemical analysis, Kunti breaks down aromas into their constituent molecular data, then translates that data into 3D digital sculptures through custom modeling, working with a researcher to build a practice that treats the natural world's scents as raw material for visualization. In 2024, Kunti realized he had accumulated enough molecular data to begin building full collections around this method, and has since developed bodies of work including a study of Cambodian oud (rendered from roughly seventy molecules as a single digital work) and a whisky study built from 830 distinct spirit aromas. SSK's exhibitions frequently combine digital displays with nanotechnology-embedded scent cards, so that viewers can literally smell the exact molecules being visualized, collapsing the distance between the digital and the sensory. The Origins collection premiered at London's Saatchi Gallery during the British Art Fair, and Kunti's work has been covered by outlets including Rolling Stone UK and Luxury Lifestyle Magazine for its unusual fusion of chemistry, technology, and art. At Art Dubai Special Edition 2026, SSK presented the oud and whisky collections, with collectors who acquire the oud work also receiving its synthetic scent, treating the digital and sensory registers as inseparable parts of a single artwork.
