Biography

Wednesday Kim is a Korean-born interdisciplinary artist and co-founder of De:Formal Online, an artist-run platform dedicated to promoting critical dialogue around emerging media art. Born in Seoul, South Korea, and trained at the School of Visual Arts, Kim now lives and works between New York and California. Her practice spans 3D animation, video, performance, installation, print, and sculpture, often blending analog textures with digital tools to create surreal, dreamlike worlds. Kim's work draws heavily on Korean folklore, internet subculture, and the psychology of nightmares and intrusive thought, using these motifs to examine how identity and memory are shaped by an increasingly information-saturated modern life. Her video series 'LA Hal-mee-mee' (2023), presented as part of Right Click Save's In Medias Res exhibition in collaboration with FEMMEBIT, exemplifies this approach, using time-intensive digital animation to explore personal landscape and inherited memory through the lens of her grandmother. Beyond her own art practice, Kim has been an active builder of community infrastructure for digital and new media artists through De:Formal, which has hosted exhibitions and residencies including collaborative shows with LA Artcore. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the ArtScience Museum in Singapore as part of the 'MENTAL: Colours of Wellbeing' exhibition, and she has participated in artist talks and screenings with organizations such as Feral File and Animate Projects. Kim continues to explore themes of care, motherhood, and inherited memory in her recent work, as reflected in her 2026 spotlight exhibition 'Between Signal and Noise' at the Stamp Gallery. Across mediums, her practice remains rooted in a search for connection between digital surrealism and deeply personal, culturally specific storytelling.
