DARMO is pleased to present off-duty seraphim, a solo exhibition by the artist aurèce vettier.

Across most traditions and beliefs, certain entities accompany souls toward the afterlife and prepare them for the next cycle.
aurèce vettier gathers these figures under a single name, the seraphim, almost as a writing convention.

The exhibition begins with a hypothesis: should the wealthiest one day defeat death, these seraphim would find themselves without purpose, off-duty, adrift, slowly becoming something else.

off-duty seraphim explores this shift, and through it immortality, the desire to overcome it, and its cost.

aurèce vettier's practice is built on tailored artificial intelligence models trained on the artist's personal archives, childhood photographs, dreams and memory. The resulting images leave the screen to be entrusted to the most demanding métiers d'art.

The exhibition brings together a group of exceptional objects: a cabinet-sculpture in bronze gilded with palladium leaf, a high-relief in bronze gilded in palladium, oil paintings, Aubusson tapestries created in collaboration with painter Vincent Gicquel, and a large ensemble of pietra dura works, the hardstone marquetry inherited from the Florentine workshops.

aurèce vettier’s work has found growing resonance within institutions. In 2025, his pieces were presented at the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Lyon, the Jeu de Paume in Paris. At the crossroads of artificial intelligence and fine craftsmanship, it unfolds a narrative about death, permanence and matter.
