Biography

Agnes Questionmark is a multidisciplinary artist whose work examines the body as a site where lived experience, medical intervention, and computational systems intersect. Her practice frequently originates in live performance before being translated into video, staging precise, repeated actions drawn directly from medical procedure within constructed surgical environments. Her best-known work, Opera Medica (2025), is a nine-minute, three-channel video installation directed by Giulia Mucci with still photography by Jason Baker, originally developed as a live performance with Gabriel Levy. Structured choreographically but felt procedurally, almost protocol-like, the piece stages a central question: when does lived experience become data? Opera Medica treats the posthuman not as an abstract concept but as a condition the work actively gives shape to, placing the body at the intersection of medical, technological, and computational systems that continuously interpret and reconstruct it. The work has been presented internationally, including in the exhibition Overexposed: Art, Technology, and the Body at Museum of the Moving Image in New York, and at Art Dubai Special Edition 2026 through AWL gallery. Questionmark is recognized as an important voice in performance-to-video practice, consistently probing questions of embodiment, transformation, and the body under surveillance and technological reconstruction.
