Agnieszka Kurant

Biography

Agnieszka Kurant (b. 1978, Łódź, Poland) is a conceptual interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in New York. Her practice investigates collective and nonhuman intelligences, the future of labor and creativity, and the hidden exploitations embedded within digital capitalism. Kurant often collaborates with scientists, economists, and engineers, translating complex systems of data, biology, and social behavior into sculptural and installation-based works. Her recurring interest lies in phenomena that emerge from the aggregation of many small actions, whether generated by human crowds, artificial intelligence, or living organisms, and in how such collective processes challenge conventional notions of authorship and individual agency. Represented by Marian Goodman Gallery, Kurant has presented major solo exhibitions including Risk Landscape at MUDAM Luxembourg and The End of Signature at the Guggenheim Museum, alongside long-running series such as Post-Fordite, Sentimentite, and Chemical Garden, which use materials like compacted waste and mineral chemistry to visualize socio-economic transformation. At Art Basel Basel 2026, Marian Goodman presented her works Alien Internet II and Unthoughtforms, sculptures and electromagnetically controlled installations that continue her long-standing inquiry into collective cognition and machine intelligence. Kurant's work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Guggenheim, MoMA PS1, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, and she is recognized as one of the most rigorous contemporary voices examining the intersection of technology, economics, and collective life.
