Biography

Anne Spalter is an internationally recognized digital and AI-based mixed-media artist whose work explores the sublime grandeur of natural and constructed landscapes, from vast oceans to endless highways, as a way of reflecting on transformation, collective change, and possible futures. A foundational figure in digital art education, she established the first digital fine arts courses at both Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design in the 1990s and authored the widely taught textbook The Computer in the Visual Arts. Her practice spans video, generative imagery, and AI-driven mixed media, and she has produced acclaimed NFT projects such as the 557-piece Rabbit Takeover, alongside video works like The Wonder of It All, now held in the collection of the Centre Pompidou, and The Bell Machine, a 20-minute AI piece acquired by the Buffalo AKG Museum. Spalter has been named one of the fifty most influential crypto artists by Rizzoli, featured in the Taschen NFT book, and exhibited repeatedly at the SPRING/BREAK Art Show in New York, with additional works held by the Victoria and Albert Museum, the RISD Museum, the Museum of Crypto Art, Flamingo DAO, and other major private and institutional collections. Her NFTs have sold through Sotheby's and Phillips and have been covered by outlets including the New York Times. Alongside her husband Michael Spalter, she stewards Spalter Digital, one of the most extensive private collections of early computer art in the world, comprising more than 1,500 works.
