Biography

aurece vettier is a conceptual art project founded in 2019 by French artist Paul Mouginot, born in 1990. The project's name was itself generated through an algorithm, a deliberate gesture meant to question the role of individual authorship and ego in art-making, and the practice has since grown into what its creator describes as a collaborative, open, and hybrid artistic entity rather than a single fixed persona; at points it has also involved collaborators such as Anis Gandoura. Aurece vettier's work sits at the intersection of cutting-edge computation and traditional craft, combining custom AI models trained by the artist with materials and techniques including bronze casting, oil painting, and marble sculpture, producing objects that read as fossils or artifacts from an imagined, technologically inflected nature. Ecological concern runs throughout the project's output, with recurring imagery of impossible or hybrid plants, herbariums, forests, and skies that blur the line between organic growth and algorithmic generation. Aurece vettier has also worked extensively with language, producing poetry generated in collaboration with GPT-3 and other AI language models, exploring themes of memory, dreaming, and ecological loss in verses later translated into physical and digital artworks and performances. The project has released poetry collections and immersive digital environments, including a herbarium-inspired virtual cabinet and a series of collaborative poems co-created with human poets and AI systems, and it has partnered with digital poetry platforms such as theVERSEverse. Exhibited and collected internationally through galleries and digital art platforms, aurece vettier continues to test how far collaborative and machine-assisted authorship can extend into fields traditionally reserved for the solitary human artist, using nature and craft as recurring anchors for its otherwise experimental, technology-driven practice.
