Casper Brindle

Biography

Casper Brindle is a Canadian-born artist based in Los Angeles whose practice explores the expressive possibilities of colour, light, and form. He began painting as a teenager, deeply influenced by the California Light and Space movement, and his mature work continues that lineage through luminous gradients, reflective surfaces, and shifting light effects that behave almost like screens without being technically digital. Brindle's wall-mounted Light Glyphs, illusory geometric forms that appear to glow from within using only natural or ambient light sources, exemplify this approach: vacuum-formed and finished to emphasize the organic quality of the forms, they play with the viewer's sense of light and space depending on where they stand and how the surrounding light shifts. His earlier use of embedded LEDs helped establish a bridge between the historical Light and Space tradition and contemporary digital aesthetics, without leaning on digital tools directly. At JD Malat Gallery's presentation for Art Dubai Special Edition 2026, Brindle's gradients and reflective works were shown alongside painters including Santiago Parra, Masayoshi Nojo, and Ur Kasin, in a booth examining how painting and digital culture remain in active conversation. Brindle's work has been exhibited internationally and is held by galleries including Winston Wachter and William Turner Gallery, and continues a decades-long California tradition of using perceptual and optical phenomena as primary artistic material.
