Artist Directory

A South Korean-born, San Francisco-based animator known for minimal, expressive 2D animations and goofy, relatable doodles.
DeeKay Kwon, born in 1989 in South Korea, is an animator and digital artist now based in the San Francisco Bay Area after spending twelve formative years living and working in New York City. He studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York and built a career in animation and motion design before transitioning to work as a full-time independent artist in 2022. DeeKay is best known for tightly composed, minimal 2D animations that treat movement itself as the primary expressive tool, often starting from simple pencil doodles and evolving them into looping, character-driven pieces. His style draws inspiration from retro video games and everyday observation, favoring clean forms, dynamic timing, and a warm sense of humor over heavy or conceptually dense subject matter. By his own description, he finds happiness through making people smile with goofy, friendly, and relatable animations rather than pursuing weightier themes. DeeKay's transition into the NFT and digital art space brought his animation work to a much wider audience, and he has since been featured by platforms and publications including OpenSea, nft now, and Right Click Save, with profiles exploring his creative process, experiences with burnout, and effort to maintain balance as a working artist. His art has also been exhibited by galleries such as AOTM and SILK Art House. Known affectionately within the digital art community as 'DeeKay Motion,' he continues to release character-based animated pieces that balance technical animation craft with an accessible, good-natured visual sensibility.
