Venezuelan mixed-media artist using branded consumer objects to critique globalization and consumerism.
Eduardo Enrique (b. 1989, Venezuela) is a mixed-media artist based between Dubai and Singapore, and a graduate of Design and Technology at Parsons, The New School in New York. His practice uses everyday branded objects, sneakers, baseball bats, golf balls, to critique consumerism and globalization, revealing the absurdity of the fetishistic relationships people form with commercial products and status symbols. One recurring installation suspends shoes that repeatedly strike the ground through a motorized mechanical system, creating an endless, almost Sisyphean loop of consumption and spectacle that is simultaneously surreal and darkly funny. Enrique's work treats consumer goods not simply as subject matter but as readymade material charged with cultural meaning, using repetition and mechanization to expose the compulsive, cyclical logic underlying contemporary consumer culture. At Art Dubai Special Edition 2026, Enrique's work was presented by SHANKAY alongside artists including Yutaro Inagaki, Isaac Sullivan, and guest artist Vhils, in a booth united by a shared interest in how images and objects circulate, transform, and accumulate meaning within meme culture and consumer society. His work has been featured internationally, including coverage by Tatler Asia profiling his layered symbolism and material experimentation, and he continues to develop a practice that bridges his Venezuelan origins with a globally mobile, materially inventive contemporary art voice.
