Entangled Others

Biography

Entangled Others is the artist duo of Sofia Crespo and Feileacan McCormick, whose practice is described as an entanglement with the more-than-human, nurturing and engaging diversity and interconnectedness through artificial intelligence, algorithms, and generative systems. Rather than attempting to explain or simplify reality, their work inhabits the zone where data fragments and perception fails, using speculation as a way of imagining what exists just outside the reach of human senses. Their process is deliberately performative and iterative, building frameworks of rules that guide dataset creation, aesthetic selection, and algorithmic approach, treating failure, friction, and unpredictability as essential components rather than errors to be eliminated. Their first European solo exhibition, Liquid Chimeras, presented at the MEET Digital Culture Center in Milan, emerged from the STUDIOTOPIA art and science residency and a collaboration with oceanographer Joan Llort, resulting in works including Specious Upwellings, Decohering Delineation, Liquid Strata: Argomorphs, and Sediment Nodes. These works explore oceanic phenomena, upwellings, marine snow, sediment-laden water, that unfold at scales or in conditions largely inaccessible to direct human perception, using quantum-inspired circuits, neural networks, and marine datasets to render interconnected ecological processes newly perceptible. Liquid Strata: Argomorphs speculates on Argo ocean-monitoring floats that, once their batteries die, sink and imaginatively merge with marine life into new hybrid entities, a contemporary echo of how earlier eras filled gaps in knowledge with chimeric and monstrous forms. Entangled Others' work consistently treats digital systems and artificial life not as external observers but as entangled participants within the same ecological fabric they depict.
