Biography

Florian Zumbrunn is a Franco-Swiss generative artist and creative technologist, born in 1987 in Montmorency, now based between Paris and Tokyo. He describes himself simply as an artist who paints with code, building visual worlds from scratch using JavaScript and WebGL to explore movement, light, texture, and landscape. Zumbrunn's artistic path began in traditional fine art, studying illustration and oil painting before transitioning toward writing his own algorithms as his primary creative tool, a shift he often describes as trading the paintbrush for code while retaining a painter's sensibility for composition and atmosphere. For over a decade, his practice has sat at the intersection of generative algorithms, landscape, and physical media, frequently printing and hand-finishing his code-generated works to merge digital process with tactile, traditional techniques. As a senior creative developer and media artist, he has also worked across installations, websites, and live visual performance (VJing), applying his technical skills to a wide range of collaborative and commercial projects alongside his personal fine art practice. His generative work has been presented through platforms and galleries including Bright Moments, where his 'Odyssey' series was exhibited, The Disruptive Gallery, and Verse, and he has been recognized by institutions such as the Gérard Foundation's Prix Jeune Création for emerging artists.
