Jonas Lund

Biography

Jonas Lund (born 1984, Sweden) is a conceptual artist whose paintings, sculptures, photography, websites, and performances critically reflect on contemporary networked systems and the power structures embedded within them. Trained originally in photography, Lund shifted his practice toward net art and systems-based conceptualism, often building works that expose how algorithms, social platforms, and institutional incentives shape both art markets and everyday behavior. He is known as the founder of one of the first artist DAOs, using blockchain-based governance to question authorship, value, and collective decision-making within the art world. Lund frequently collaborates with Dutch artist Constant Dullaart (born 1979, Netherlands), a pioneer of early net art and a resident of the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten who lives and works between Berlin and Amsterdam. Together, and independently, the two artists have examined the mechanics of online attention and manipulation; one notable joint performance, "Operation Earnest Voice," used purchased fake social media followers to interrogate how influence and popularity are manufactured and monetized online. Lund's solo work has been exhibited internationally, including at Phillips auction house in the exhibition "Fair Warning" and through Office Impart gallery, and his practice regularly appears in critical writing on digital culture and the online attention economy. Across his output, Lund treats the tools of contemporary networked life, from social media metrics to blockchain smart contracts, as both subject matter and medium, producing work that is as much a critique of systems as it is a product of them.
