Biography

ThankYouX, born Ryan Wilson, is a Los Angeles-based mixed-media artist who began his career in 2009 as an anonymous street artist, stenciling homages to Andy Warhol across the city while working a day job as a corporate art director. His signature tag, a simple 'Thank You' signed with an X, quickly caught the attention of street art blogs and earned him the moniker under which he still works today. As his profile grew, ThankYouX transitioned from figurative, Warhol-inspired stencils into a more abstract visual language built around layered geometric forms, cubes, and optical illusions, moving his practice from illicit night-time murals into galleries, museums, and prominent public commissions, including work for Snapchat's Los Angeles headquarters. His fine art exhibitions have included presentations at Sotheby's in Los Angeles and Dubai's Museum of the Future, reflecting his successful transition from underground street artist to internationally exhibited fine artist. In 2020, ThankYouX began creating blockchain-based digital art, drawn to the NFT space by what he has described as a feeling of raw excitement reminiscent of his early nights spent painting the streets. His digital practice bridges his physical painting techniques with new technology, incorporating kinetic sculpture, generative elements, and collaborations with musicians such as Hans Zimmer, further expanding the boundaries of what his layered abstraction can express. ThankYouX has spoken extensively in interviews and podcasts about his journey from anonymous vandal to respected artist working across physical and digital mediums, positioning himself as one of the clearest examples of an artist successfully bridging traditional fine art institutions with the emerging world of Web3 and blockchain-based ownership.
