Biography

Ur Kasin (b. 1998, Romania) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Bucharest whose work navigates the tension between the absurd and the banal. His process typically begins with online sketches and internet image flows, ordinary, often overlooked scenes and gestures encountered while scrolling, which he then translates back into paint, layering abstraction and figuration into texturally rich, puzzle-like compositions suspended between thought and action. Kasin describes his paintings as bringing together the ordinary and the strange, capturing the psychology of hyper-digital life: fragmented attention, absurdity, overstimulation, and an identity increasingly shaped by screens, feeds, and endless accumulation of imagery. Works such as The Tragedy and Pool Scene exemplify this confluence of figuration and abstraction, using intricate layers and stark outlines to capture the multifaceted, often contradictory experience of contemporary life. Kasin is represented by JD Malat Gallery, which has shown his work in group exhibitions including Points of View, All at Once, and presentations at Contemporary Istanbul, alongside artists such as Santiago Parra and Casper Brindle. At Art Dubai Special Edition 2026, his paintings were shown at JD Malat Gallery's booth alongside Casper Brindle, Santiago Parra, and Masayoshi Nojo, in a presentation exploring how painting and digital culture remain in direct and active conversation with one another.
