Collection Francisco Carolinum - 3 Blockchains, one Collection

SEPT 9, 2026-FEB 7, 2027 | LINZ, AUSTRIAA

With the Collection Francisco Carolinum, the museum is presenting its continuously growing collection of blockchain-based art, which has been expanding since 2021, in a comprehensive exhibition for the first time. The exhibition brings together works on the Ethereum, Tezos, and Bitcoin blockchains and offers insights into an artistic field that remains in constant flux.

The focus is on groups of works by international artists, series, and projects created in collaboration with the museum. The digital collection is complemented by selected physical works that relate to their digital counterparts and reveal diverse forms of artistic practice.

The exhibition understands blockchain not only as a technological infrastructure, but also as an artistic medium. It showcases works in which blockchain forms the basis of the work, as well as works in which it itself becomes part of the artistic concept – from smart contracts and code-based art to works created entirely on-chain.

Alongside its presentation at the Francisco Carolinum, the collection can also be viewed in the museum's virtual building in Cryptovoxels. Together, the two exhibition venues offer different perspectives on a collection that is continuously growing and reflects the developments in blockchain-based art.
